Episode 180: Nintendo Switched Off

The Nintendo Switch has been announced, but has the hype train even left the station? Strap in for all the Nintendo debates, and the week in geek news, on an all new episode of…The Surly Nerd!

Are we ready to Switch to Nintendo?
Greetings adventurers, and welcome to this weeks installment of The Surly Nerd! After our prelude, we kick things off in comics with the Learn How to Draw app that’s coming to you from the artist behind Spider-man 2099. We also say goodbye to the A-force comic this week as we welcome two new X-men comics, being written to take us back to the 90s.
Over in games, we discuss the currently on-going writers strike and get a little serious talking about the link between violence and video games. Lash closes down level two with the history of No Man’s Sky and a talk about why it is failing in the eyes of its fans.
Over in the world of entertainment, Deadpool 2 is getting a new director – but we don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. Also, we break down the acquisition of Warner Brothers by AT&T and attempt to bring some levity to the show as we discuss Joss Whedon’s new horror movie.
Our epilogue this week is ALL about the Nintendo Switch announcement! As always, we appreciate all our adventurers who listen to the show every week and we look forward to your feedback on what we discuss! (info@thesurlynerd.com!)

C2E2 vs. GDC: Dawn of Conventions

C2E2 and GDC have come and gone, but what does that mean for you?! We answer these burning questions and more on an all new episode of…The Surly Nerd!

We’re kinda excited about Civil War II
Greetings adventurers, and welcome to this weeks installment of The Surly Nerd! After our prelude, we head into comics where we kick things off about Poison Ivy and how great DC’s villains are. From there we talk about the announcement of a Bebop and Rocksteady comic before heading into a TON of Marvel news – including Jessica Jones, Kate Bishop, and Poe Dameron. We close out level one with more intel about Civil War II and how we might be hyped for what Marvel is presenting us with.
Level 2 this week is ENTERTAINMENT focused, kicking it off with a remake of Jacob’s Ladder which has James very cross. We also get into the movie for Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, the death of the 2nd Ghostbusters film, Zach Snyder’s opinions on Marvel v DC and put a nice bow on level 2 with a discussion over video on demand and if it can truly exist “day of” blockbuster releases.
We get into level 3 with a big ‘ol discussion about GDC (the Games Developers Conference) and how important emulation is to the future of past games. Also, we get into Sony news in terms of their VR plans as well as what the current future of VR should be. The show comes to a close this week with a talk on the console wars and the viability of them in a modern generation.
Due to all the news this week, we have cancelled our epilogue, but it will be back next week! As always, we appreciate all our adventurers who listen to the show every week and we look forward to your feedback on what we discuss! (info@thesurlynerd.com!)
