Episode 208: RPG Semantics

It’s time to argue about the use of the term “RPG” in modern gaming!

How many RPG video games are truly RPG’s?
Greetings adventurers, and welcome to this weeks installment of The Surly Nerd! After our prelude, we kick things off in comics where Marvel is trying to get their fans to get on board with Secret Empire (and it’s not working). We also break down DC’s new young imprint and try and figure out why comic book sales are down from last month – even with two major events going on.
Heading into level two, Overwatch is taking the world by storm – but why? We also give you some fun news about Starcraft and dive into the history and potential sequel to Darksiders.
Over in the world of entertainment, Logan is getting a black and white re-release that has us super excited and a Gears of War release that has us…not as excited. Level three comes to a close with comments from David Lynch about why he’s leaving movies and we explore if he’s really a fit for modern Hollywood.
Our epilogue is week is a fun semantics argument on use of the term RPG in modern gaming. As always, we appreciate all our adventurers who listen to the show every week and we look forward to your feedback on what we discuss! (info@thesurlynerd.com!)
